Orthopedic Allograft Options

Patients who undergo joint repair or restoration with allograft tissue often have few medical options. Joint reconstruction using allograft tissue has been shown to provide positive patient outcomes including reduced pain, increased mobility and improved function. The Joint Restoration Foundation offers specialized allografts that provide a biologic solution for a range of joint defects and injuries. These include:

  • Soft tissue structural allografts to replace and repair defects in articulating joints, such as knees
  • Meniscus to replace torn or damaged meniscus in the knee, or to provide cushion and support in the shoulder or hip
  • Tendons and ligaments to replace and repair damaged connective tissue in articulating joints
  • Bone and connective tissue allografts to save limbs in the presence of bone malignancies or significant trauma resection

These treatment options are critical to surgeons, whose goals are to achieve the best long-term outcomes in joint integration, mobility and function, and to do so without the limitations of autograft – transplanting a portion of bone or tissue from one part of the patient’s body to another – and artificial joint replacement.
