Honoring Donors in National Donate Life Month – Garrett Brockway  |  April 4, 2014

garrettGarrett was a fun-loving, athletic 10-year-old who cherished his family and had a penchant for memorizing stats about the St. Louis Cardinals, his favorite baseball team.

He eagerly awaited the day his younger sister Adeline would start kindergarten and join him at their elementary school. He excelled academically and even read at a ninth grade level.

On February 24, 2013, while working in the yard with his father, Garrett was struck by a falling tree. When he passed away three days later, his parents made the generous decision to donate his organs and tissue so his passion for helping others could live on.

Though his family misses their joyful boy every day, they take comfort in knowing the donation of Garrett’s organs saved five lives, his corneas improved vision for two people and his tissues enhanced the lives of numerous recipients.
