AATB and NFDA Update Best Practices for Collaboration Between Tissue Banks and Funeral Homes  |  March 19, 2014

The American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) and the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA) released updated best practices to further support the relationship between funeral directors and donation professionals as the organizations work together to honor the wishes of the donor and the donor families.

Organ, eye and tissue donation often provides comfort and solace for families grappling with a devastating loss.  Both organizations play a critical role for families in the donation and grieving process. A strong working relationship between members of the AATB and NFDA better serves families in their time of need.

The AATB and NFDA released best practices over 10 years ago to clarify roles of each organization in the donation process. The AATB and NFDA decided to revisit the guidelines to provide education for their respective members and continue a dialogue between the industries.

The updated Best Practices for Cooperation Among Tissue Banks and Funeral Service Professionals is available on both the NFDA and AATB websites.
