Government to Regulate Hand and Face Transplants  |  January 2, 2014

Exciting developments in the field of organ and tissue transplantation have prompted the U.S. government to expand regulation to include hand and face transplants.

These radical transplants have the potential to improve the lives of those who are disfigured by injury or illness. Though still rare, the number of these procedures is slowly increasing as more hospitals have performed these experimental surgeries.

Starting in July, United Network for Organ Sharing, the organization that coordinates organ transplant activities, will oversee hand and face transplants.
