LifeGift in Houston, Texas Hosts Event to Honor Donors and Donor Families  |  June 18, 2012

On Wednesday, May 30, LifeGift honored 90 organ and tissue donors at its annual Donor Medal Ceremony in Houston. Several hundred donor family members were on hand to receive a donor medal in honor of their loved ones’ lifesaving and life-enhancing gifts.

Members of the LifeGift staff read each donor name aloud. As the names were read, corresponding photos of each donor were shown on large screens. A quartet played softly in the background as the names were read.  When a name was read, a member of the donor’s family would stand to accept a donor medal and flower from a LifeGift volunteer, who was either a  transplant recipient or a member of a donor family themselves.

The Donor Medal Ceremony is just one of the events LifeGift hosts annually to remember and honor those who gave the gift of life through organ, eye and tissue donation. LifeGift hosts similar events in its other regions and also hosts a Candle Lighting event around the holidays to pay tribute to those who gave the ultimate gift.
